Preparing for the July 4th weekend opening, the first of two trucks was spotted early this morning bringing in the Chihuly Collection! We are excited about the grand opening and the presence of the master glass artist’s works being on display in this beautiful city and area. This should add to St. Petersburg’s growing and well deserved reputation as an art center!

St Petersburg, Florida, has been recognized as the top Mid-Size City for Art in American Style Magazine (May 2010). According to the magazine, “The arts are everywhere in St. Petersburg, from world-renowned institutions, such as the under-construction Salvador Dali Museum (opening Jan. 11, 2011) and the newly expanded Museum of Fine Arts, to the private art galleries that line its downtown streets.“ Now St. Pete’s Morean Arts Center will present world class artist Dale Chihuly at 400 Beach Drive, a 10,000 square foot space that will house a representation of his collection to the tune of $6 million. Try Central Avenue for renovated artists’ spaces that are attracting more and more artists. Morean Arts Center on Central Avenue will also have a 4,000 square foot glass studio and hot shop where visitors can watch glass artists at work. Our lovely Museum of Fine Arts recently was gifted a Georgia O’Keefe to add to its collection which now has three representations of her...

Unfortunately for me, I ended up in the hospital for a few days recently. Because the hospital was over-crowded, I was put into a consultation room instead of a real room. That meant my gurney faced the hall and I had no way to see any view (which was limited anyway). As the days that seemed limitless dragged on, the plain light brown walls started to get to me. NO color. No prints. No paintings. Just walls.
Friends who came to visit commented on the starkness.
And if you knew me and saw my home, you would know how important art is to me.
There are programs that involve patients, young and old, in creating art. Tapping into their creativity helps them emotionally and often physically. There is a program called “Art for Recovery” that is successful. And the Art for Life foundation has 13 programs and has worked with 18,000 sick children.
Art in schools is essential. Math and science and reading are important skills but when a school has a good art program…………test scores...

It has been a long ride all these years and I am finally feeling that my artwork is where I always wanted it to be- strong, positive, and overall, very futuristic. I don’t have the voice, nor the right words to describe...
